Fee-based enrichment classes in a variety
of areas are taught by community instructors. Classes are offered Monday through Friday at Malcolm X, in
the afternoons.
Spring session begins March 4th, 2013, and runs through May 17, 2013.
Check out all the cool classes that you could sign your kid up for! Kindergarteners can sign up for classes like Wire Art, Math Games, Circus Arts, Fairy Tales Dance, Ceramics, Build the World, Capoeira, Origami, Artchitecture LEGOs and Take Me to the Improv! First through fifth graders have separate classes, including almost all of the above PLUS Toyology (by Sarah's Science), Fencing, Green Drag Race, Ultimate Frizbee, Stage Combat Movement,
Chess (one for boys and one for girls), and Gardening. For 2nd-5th graders, there is also Mr. D's Music Club (singing rock songs!), and for 3rd-5th graders, Glass Art, Robotic Adventures, Role-Playing Adventure and Pixel Players!
All classes are taught one day a week by community instructors at MX, immediately after the regular school day ends. Kindergarten afterschool classes run from 1:30-2:20, every day. Grades 1-5 afterschool classes generally run from 2:30-3:20, except for Wednesdays, when classes run from 1:30 to 2:20. Please note that Toyology, Glass Art, Green Drag Race, Pixel Players, and Robotic Adventures run LONGER - see the class grid for exact release time.
Class prices generally range from about $130-$220 per child per class (between $14 - $22 per 50 minute class meeting); some scholarships are available. Your child can attend these classes and still participate in X-Plus/EDC, etc. afterschool care. (Spring session classes cost a bit more than fall session classes since the session will be longer and there will be more class meetings. Again, there will be some scholarships available.)
Fencing charges a Mask rental fee. Registered students will pay that fee directly to the instructor, on the first day of class.
Note that Fencing class has the same start and end date as other classes but there are only 7 sessions, with no Fencing class on 4/12, 4/19 or 5/3. Similarly, Glass Art meets for 9 sessions, with no Glass Art class on 4/16.
Instructions for this session (Spring 2013): Class Descriptions are available HERE and on the PTA bulletin boards at MX. Make sure to return your form and check(s) to the MX school office by the lottery deadline: Tuesday, February 19th, 2013 at 5:30 pm. Checks (NO CASH) should be for the amount of class tuition only and not for the additional materials fee; the materials fees will be paid once the class begins. The lottery will be conducted on Tuesday, 2/19 or Wednesday, 2/20. The last day to register will be Friday, 2/22. Class lists will be posted on Wednesday and Thursday, 2/26-2/27, in the MX school office and on the PTA board. Classes begin Monday, March 4th! Last day of classes will be Friday, May 17th, 2013.
